Art museum tour with Dr Beatrice Trost

‘Eyewitnesses with Pen and Camera – Max Beckmann and Armand Besch’.

The exhibition presents two artistic perspectives that bring to light the social and political upheavals of their time. The prints by Max Beckmann (1884–1950) and the photographs by Armand Besch (1872–1955) are to be understood not only as historical documents, but also as highly personal commentaries on social realities. Whilst Beckmann’s works, which form part of the Dr Helmut and Constanze Meyer Art Foundation, are owned by the city, Besch’s photographs, from a private collection, are being shown in a public exhibition for the first time.
